George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship

The George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 by The Community Choir, Inc.’s Board of Directors in memory of one of the organization’s founding members. The scholarship program furthers Mr. Rink’s dream of supporting the development of young musicians in Morgan County, West Virginia.

Scholarships for Promising Young Musicians
The George G. Rink Memorial Individual Scholarship recognizes the potential for excellence in young musicians actively engaged in pursuing instrumental or vocal training. The $250 award may be used toward purchase of instruments, tuition for private lessons, classes, workshops and conferences that enhance the student’s music education, or fees for participation in instrumental and vocal groups.

Interested Morgan County musicians ages 12 – 19 can download a copy of the scholarship application, criteria and timeline here.

Support for the Sleepy Creek Children’s Choir
The George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship underwrites registration fees provides uniforms and performance shoes for some choir members, removing financial barriers that would prevent these young musicians from participating in the Sleepy Creek Children’s Choir’s music education and performance opportunities.

Music Education
The George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship sponsors youth music education opportunities, including the October 2011 Finding Your Voice master classes and choral workshop with visiting opera singer and vocal instructor Charles Williams, and individual Master Classes in 2009 and 2010 with visiting concert pianist and instructor Peter Basquin. Future expansion plans include summer music appreciation classes for children in Morgan County, a vocal music camp, and a college scholarship program.
