Alexander Marte Wins George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship

Alexander_Marte 300

Violinist Alexander Marte has been named the Spring 2010 winner of the George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship for Young Musicians. Alexander, age 13, is a home-schooled sixth grader and is the youngest son of Heidi and Marcos Marte of Berkeley Springs.

Alexander was selected as the Rink Scholarship winner based on the superior quality of his application and recommendations from his teachers, well as his outstanding audition performance of Corelli’s “La Folie Variations.”

Alexander’s love of the violin began at age 3, when his mother gave him a toy instrument to play with and he graduated to formal violin lessons with Dr. Linda Whitesett at age 8. He is a member of the Springs Chamber Ensemble and a frequent guest performer at Living Springs Chorale concerts.

Alexander hopes to pursue a career in music and plans to use the scholarship award money to pay for a special strings music camp in Tennessee.
